FIRST
(For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) was founded in 1989 by Dean Kamen—inventor, entrepreneur, and science and technology advocate—in order to promote careers and participation in science and technology. Through its various programs, FIRST aims to mold students into well–rounded individuals, teaching them about basic engineering, science and technology principles, and also about self-confidence, communication and leadership skills, and gracious professionalism.
FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC)
In only a six-week period under strict rules, limited resources, and time limits, teams are challenged to build a robot of their own design to perform prescribed tasks against a field of competitors. Alongside professional engineers, students learn about design, project management, teamwork, and Coopertition while using sophisticated software and hardware.
